Poppies

Hey! Long time no see, huh? Sorry about that. Been a whirlwind of stuff going on ever since CHA. Trying to get a lot done and feeling like I’m falling farther and farther behind instead.

It’s my turn over on the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft blog today and I made a really pretty card using just a few Gelatos® , a couple of Stamper’s Brush Pens, some Gesso, an Aquarelle Watercolor Pencil, and some stamps.

Here’s a look at the card, but if you want to see the video – you have to head over to their blog to check it out!

Who knew that stamping on vellum could turn out so beautiful? I love how this looks and I hope it inspires YOU, too.

Please check out their blog for the video and a full list of supplies.

Have a FABULOUS week,

United We Flourish Hop With Altenew

Hi there!! And welcome to my stop on the hop. You should have have arrived from the fabulous blog of Svitlana Shayevich. She’s SO incredible, isn’t she? WOW!!

I have to tell you how incredibly excited I am about this hop. So many things I love: Ellen Hutson, the United We Flourish Program, Altenew, and POPPIES!! I have a serious love affair for poppies. I have them all over my house.  It’s true. They bring me such joy and hold a special place in my heart. ♥ I’m thrilled to be able to participate in this hop and I know you all will love designing with this multi-layered stamp set just like *I* did.

For my card I wanted to show off the versatility of both the stamp and die.  So I chose to use Distress Oxide Inks to watercolor the Poppy (first on the panel and then for the die-cut piece). And then I used standard Distress Inks to create the background.  Allow me to show you my card:

I first stamped out the Poppy image onto watercolor paper using 3 colors of Distress Oxide Inks. The reason I stamped this first image was to get the ink laid down and to create the watercolor effect I was going for. Using a paintbrush and water I was able to blur the ink and make the edges look more watercolor-y.

I then die-cut a mask of the flower out of Judikins Eclipse Tape .  By doing this I can now create the background without distorting the flower too much.

Placing the sticky mask on top of the flower I created my background using Distress Inks. This could absolutely be done with the Altenew Dye Inks, as well (I just don’t have any. *sad face*) . The colors I used are shown in the photo. (The Evergreen Bough was used as a transition color between the green and blue.)

Using water, a paintbrush, and the black ink from the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor set I next flicked black ink on top of the panel. This is a dramatic effect I just LOVE!

Stamping and die-cutting the United We Flourish Stamp & Die Combo, Poppy Fields by Altenew flower a SECOND time I added a few details. Black ink was added around the edges for contrast, hints of shimmer to the petal lines, and Glossy Accents to the center. This piece was added using dimensional foam squares.

A piece of black cardstock was prepped with an Inkadinkado Embossing Magic Powder Bag. The sentiment was stamped using Versamark Ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.

My Poppy panel was adhered to a piece of the Essentials by Ellen Paper Pack, Modern Graphics by Julie Ebersole and that piece was adhered to my base card. After that? I simply adhered my sentiment with a few foam squares and a few sequins were added.

Here is a close-up:

NOW!! What would a blog hop of ANY kind be without prizes?!!? :D

Always Remember

Memorial Day is a day to remember the fallen. To show respect, and to honor the brave men and women who DIED while in service to this great nation of ours. We need to always remember these brave souls. And that is what Memorial Day is all about. It’s one day of the year that is set aside to do exactly that. To pay our respects.

I have a card today on the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® blog today to share my respects for those brave men and women. To say that we will always remember.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields. — (Source: Wikipedia)

I created my own Flanders Field of poppies using this gorgeous stamp set from Technique Tuesday called Budding Poppies.

I stamped it once, masked off one of the poppies and stamped it again. This creates a look of dimension and there being more when there isn’t any. The coloring was all done with Distress Markers, which I used as watercolors.

The sentiment (which I LOOOOOVE) comes from another Technique Tuesday stamp set called Poppy Sentiments and is one of my all time faves. I just love this stamp set with my whole heart. My dear friend Teri Anderson designed it and the sentiments in this set are the BEST…along with the poppies, of course.

As for me, I know that I will always remember those that came before me and laid their lives on the line so that I could live in a free country. I am so proud to live in a country like ours. We have so many wonderful opportunities and we have to give thanks where they are due.

Wherever you are, I hope that you will bow your heads in a moment of silence and remember…

MY FAVES:

Choosing favorites is like picking your favorite child (if you have kids) for me, it’d be like choosing a favorite kitten. It’s next to impossible! But, what I tried to do is narrow it down to things that I use daily or reach for regularly. It was really, really hard for me to keep the lists short. (You have NO idea how hard.) But I tried. And if you have any questions about anything that I have listed, please e-mail me anytime. :)

New Watercolor Card

Hey there! Happy Thursday! I have a really cool new watercolor card to share with you all on the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Blog today featuring a new die from Technique Tuesday.

I’m kind of addicted to creating watercolor backgrounds, to be honest. I love the fluidity and the way the colors just move. To spend time creating the backgrounds just gives me a sense of peace and calm. I just wonder if people (you!) get tired of them. Hopefully not.

I tried a kind of inlay technique using a watercolor background that I created and a new die from Technique Tuesday called Happy Butterfly. It’s so beautiful. I love butterflies almost as much as poppies. But not quite. ;)

Here’s a close up of my new watercolor card with the full tutorial up on the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L blog:
