Color Trend Week with Ellen Hutson

Hey Everyone! This is a fun week on the CLASSroom blog for Ellen Hutson, LLC as we are having a Color Trend Week. This week, Ellen has chosen Black & White with a Pop of Color. You know that that prompt made my brain go into hyperdrive, right? ;)

I thought it would be really interesting to go with a really BOLD (but simple) Black and White background and then for my Pop of Color to go with a watercolor wash, but with bright colors. I hope my description makes sense. It did in my head when I was designing it. LOL!! In essence, I wanted the background to be a complete juxtaposition of the beautiful Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, Mondo Peony by Julie Ebersole.

I’m kinda crushing on my own card. And I love how these colors play off of each other. I used Laurel’s June Pin-sight’s Challenge as my Pop of Color inspiration which you can see in the photo below. I hope that you’ll want to play along. It’s always a fun challenge.

All of my coloring of the Mondo Peony is done on Bristol Paper. It just works so much better with the Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. I chose to color the leaves in a black/grey scheme to keep the color focused on the flower. And also added some flicks of black ink onto the flower itself to tie the black color from the flower BACK to the card. I hope that makes sense. These things always do in my head, but when I try to explain them they just sound weird. HA!

The only other thing done was the tiny little “Hello” was stamped using a Versafine Ink Pad, Onyx Black which was then heat embossed with Wow! Embossing Powder, Super Fine – Clear Gloss. The “Hello” is from Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps All Inside, by Julie Ebersole.

This is a VERY easy card to recreate. All you need is the right tools. And lucky for YOU? Ellen Hutson, LLC carries them all. :) Don’t forget to stop by the CLASSroon blog for more inspiration, too.

I have a supply list right below if you’re looking for anything that I used in my card and a few close ups of the card, too. Thanks, so much, for stopping by today!

New Hinged Dies from Essentials by Ellen

Hey everyone! I’m so excited to share with you new Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies Hinged Alpha and Hinged Numbers by Julie Ebersole. These are much like the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Hinged Thanks by Julie Ebersole. The letters in the Hinged Alpha Set are all meant to work separately to form whatever words you like right after snipping them apart. And the Hinged Alpha Set is  perfect for any birthday or anniversary…or anything else your imagination can dream up.

Here is a close up of a card that I created using the brand new Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Hinged Alpha by Julie Ebersole and the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Bold Blossoms Stand-Alone by Julie Ebersole.

I wanted to show the close-up first so that you could see the dies in “action”, so-to-speak. I thought that they “Hey, You” was clever. But, it could just be me.  ;) I colored the vellum from the back side with a variety of Copics. Then the piece was adhered to a scrap of white glitter paper. (I have a LOT of scraps!)

Using more scraps (yay!) I die cut the flowers from the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Bold Blossoms Stand-Alone by Julie Ebersole

Here is the front facing photo of the card:

This wasn’t a difficult card to create.  Just hard to photograph so that you get the full gist of what what done and so you really understand the dimension of the card. The hinged dies are a lot of fun and can be cut apart and be used in so many different ways. I think with dies like this it’s important to really be creative and allow your mind to just go full force! Irresistible Sprays

I have a new post on the CLASSroom blog for #TexturalTuesdays today using some really fun Irresistible Sprays from Tsukineko/Imagine Crafts. These are Texture Sprays and leave a bit of a bumpy, texture behind after spraying. They come in a TON of colors which is lovely. I think I need to play with them in a capacity where I don’t have just a “project” in mind.

Here’s a look at today’s project, but I do urge you to head over to the blog to see how the card came together. If you’ve ever used this spray before I’d love to hear from you and what your experience has been. Please drop me a comment.

I wish you all had touch-o-vision. This card really is meant to be touched. The IrRESISTible Texture Sprays are so unique. They left my card shiny, slightly grainy, and really fun to look at. I also took out the sprayer and made some drips. That turned out like ENAMEL!! Not. Kidding. Verrrry 3-D.  It’d be fun to see a spray that wasn’t in a color, y’know? A clear one? Then you could do resist techniques on top of it. Oooooohhh!! (Maybe I should make a product?!!?)

Again, the FULL post with pics and tricks is located at the CLASSroom blog for Ellen Hutson, LLC over HERE.

Let me share with you the card I made for this amazing and beautiful event:

“Courage does not always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow.”

I loved using the big ribbon die-cut with some glitter paper for the POP! The layered floral stamps and dies added the perfect soft touch around the banner for the sentiment which I stamped and heat embossed onto vellum. A few splatters for interest using Tonic Nuvo Embellishment Mousse which I watered down. And the Tonic Nuvo Crystal Drops complete the card.  Simple, yet striking. Don’t you think? :)

Make sure you stop by the amazing Sandy Allnock’s blog. She’s up next on this very special blog hop. The full hop list is below, should you get lost or are in need of links.
