3D Poinsettia

Hey everyone! I’m super excited today because I have this amazing 3D Poinsettia to share with you today. This project is also for the Faber-Castell® Design Memory Craft® Design Team so the full project is on their blog with step-by-step photos and instructions.

I was inspired to make this project because of this stunning Crepe Paper Poinsettia by my friend, Amanda Coleman.

Crepe Paper Poinsettia DIY tutorial

And since she’s the amazing person she is, she allowed me to use the pattern for her leaves to make my OWN leaves for my felt 3D Poinsettia. It sure made my process so much easier. Even though it still took a long time! This is one of those project you need to be fully committed to. (I burned my fingers AND lost a fingernail!!)

Art Journal Week 3

Hey everyone! If you don’t follow the Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® Blog then you may not not that we’ve been doing an Art Journal feature all month long. And this? Is Art Journal Week 3!

We are using our exclusive square art journal boards, but we’ve been encouraging everyone to use what they have to play along. My art journal is about my recent trip to Colorado at the beginning of the month. I’m being a little bit of a tease as I don’t want to share my photos…yet! :) That’s for the final week.

Here’s a peek as to what’s been going on!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Art Journal #1

There are so many ways to get creative. From making a card, to a canvas, a tag, mini-book, and so many other awesome pieces of decor. But the one thing that has escaped me? The Art Journal.  I don’t know what it is. If it’s putting my thoughts or emotions into a certain format or what. Feeling “bound” by the journal itself, if that makes sense. I hope it does (it sure made sense to me anyway!).

I got some amazing advice from Anna Dabrowska (aka Finnabair) at CHA, though. And once I returned I decided to open up my blank art journal and just let go. One of the things that I have to remember, ultimately, is that I really AM making this art journal for me. And that I am just choosing to share it with my readers. If you like it? Great! But, it’s okay if you don’t. I have to put all of my expectations aside. Let my guard down. So, if you don’t like it? Please be gentle.

PrincessCrown-1

I thought I made a video of how I made this. But, apparently the battery died while I was filming. No bueno. However, I hope you enjoy the photos. I saw the quote and it resonated with me. I’m no princess (far from it – ha!!), but I think it applies to all women.

PrincessCrown-2The heart is cut from corrugated cardboard using a steel-ruled die and painted with acrylic paint. It is then covered with a thin coat of Glass Bead Glitter Gel using a palette knife. The crown was cut using the same die, but using heavy chipboard and coated with Gold Texture Luxe using a sponge for a more “crackled” look.

PrincessCrown-3I printed the quote on copy paper, cut it into strips and used Gel Medium to adhere it and heat set it with a heat tool. Once dry I was able to add shading with my Stamper’s Big Brush Pens. Accents on the letter “I’s” were added using the Texture Gems in Gold.

And some stamping going on in the background too. Super subtle, but just enough to add interest. I use my Stamper’s Big Brush Pens for that, too. I love using those because they are so easy to blend or add touches of water yet they are India ink, permanent, and archival and light fast. Best pens ever!

I hope you enjoyed my first foray into the art journalling world. I’m sure I’ll do more as I really enjoyed making this page. I need to find the perfect journal, though. I’m not fond of a spiral bound format (this is the 9 x 12 Strathmore Mixed Media Journal). If any of you are art journalers tell me what are YOUR favorite products? What journal do you use?

Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check out the GIVEAWAY for my Guest Design post with Ellen Huston LLC in the POST BELOW THIS ONE. :)
