Two Takes on a Trend – Feb 2018

Hey everyone! Welcome to my first Two Takes on a Trend post for Ellen Hutson in the CLASSroom. Myself and Emily Midgett are taking on the color palette and our own take on it. (Be sure to check out the The CLASSroom for the post or her blog to see her beautiful card, too.)

Here is the Pantone Palette that we are using for our cards:

It’s pretty, huh?

So, I looked at the palette and decided to use it quite literally. I made stripes out of the chosen colors using Distress Oxide Inks. Then cut the panel at an angle and layered it on a coordinating piece of colored cardstock. To keep the card looking trendy and fresh, I stamped and die-cut the Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps and Designer Dies Mondo Peony using Versamark Ink (with gold embossing powder) and cardstock weight vellum.

Since I used gold as my embossing powder, I wanted to bring out that shimmer. Just a little. So I cut a tiny strip of gold glitter paper to tuck behind my front card layer.

On a separate strip of vellum I stamped my sentiment from Right At Home Clear Stamps, Tiny Sentiments. This set has so many wonderful, perfectly sized sentiments.

Before adhering anything down and embellishing I splattered the Distress Oxide front panel with a little bit of water, just to make it a bit more interesting. I love that slightly bleached out look, personally. I adhered everything down and added a few Crystal Clear Confetti pieces for that beautiful shine.

I hope that you are inspired by the cards that we ALL are making using this wonderful color palette. It’s always useful to see how the very same colors are used in such different ways so I hope you enjoyed the Two Takes on a Trend feature between Emily and myself.

United We Flourish Better Together Blog Hop

Happy Sunday and welcome to my stop on this super special blog hop. This is a wonderful collaboration between Hero Arts and Ellen Hutson LLC and we’re thrilled to bring this limited United We Flourish release to you today. I hope that you arrived here  from the blog of my friend (and the enormously talented) Libby Hickson.

My card is a tiny bit out of my comfort zone. But as I was creating it, I just went with the flow instead of over-thinking it (as I am VERY prone to do). I’m trying very hard this year to just “let go” with my creativity. And see wherever it takes me. I think you’ll see it in the card, too.

It’s cute, isn’t it? I still did some water color and some ink blending with the background, but I didn’t go overboard.  It’s even (dare I say it?) simple? Or at least it is to me! ;) I also don’t make many cute cards, But, these little love birds were fun.

If you’re a bird-lover? Then this set is for you! It’s full of our fine-feathered friends! And all kind of fun sentiments, too. And, if you’re a collector of the United We Flourish sets, then I know you’ll have fun coloring this one for sure.

Here is a better look at the set and coordinating dies:

Essentials by Ellen December 2017 Release

Hi there, and welcome to my blog for the final Essentials by Ellen release for 2017.  You should have arrived here from the wonderfully talented and oh-so-sweet Karolyn Loncon’s blog This release is all about celebrating! Birthdays, having fun, cake, confetti, balloons!! Even having a little sparkly. Whether it be sparkling cider or champagne,  I think that you’ll find the release a perfect addition for any occasion: Birthdays, Anniversaries, Friendship, and just about anything else your mind can dream up.

I’m using a few of the new sets from the new release for my pretty in pink card. (With my focus on the new Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Banner Cake By Julie Ebersole.  Here is the card I made. I hope you all like it. It has a TON of shine!! 😎

The following are the two sets I used to make my card:

Essentials by Ellen Clear Stamps, Leading Ladies – Celebration Lady By Brandi Kincaid

Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Banner Cake By Julie Ebersole

As you will have seen from the previous days of this release hop ALL of the sets are so fun and versatile. I used the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® 3D Foam Creative Sheets to die cut my “cake”. Remove the top layer of adhesive liner and then place a sheet of gold foil on top. Burnish the foil with a tool such as the teflon bone folder (shiny shine up). The adhesive from the foam sheet will “lift” the foil. This way you will get the shimmer and shine of the foil AND the loft from the foam! Total win.

Before I took the backing off the other side of my golden cake 😉 I created a very simple background. First, I ran a piece of the beautiful dotted paper (which is actually the Essentials by Ellen Paper Pack, Modern Graphics by Julie Ebersole) through my laminating machine with a piece of Deco Foil pink melon foil.  The center of the foiled paper was ink blended with a few colors of Distress Ink Oxides and the sentiment was heat embossed with a beautiful gold embossing powder from WOW!.

The last step is simply to add embellishments and put the card together. It’s a simple card with a POW! factor. Here’s a close-up:

And rounding out this Saturday hop is the AMAAAAAAAAAZING Jessica Frost-Ballas who I know without a doubt will blow your minds 🤯with her talent!!! I hope everyone had fun on the hop today.

12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2017

Happy Friday! I hope that you’ve been checking in on the CLASSroom blog as there have been already a week’s worth of Ellen Hutson designers and guests for the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2017.

I’m so super excited to once again be paired up with the amazing Jill Foster of Penny Black. I’m always a little stunned when I’m paired with her as she’s SUCH a phenomenal designer. It’s like being told that you’re being paired with the Michelangelo of card design as your guest. A teeensy bit overwhelming. I can only do my own thing, though, y’know? Comparison will only kill ya.

SO!! For my challenge (since I’m the lead designer on this gig) I decided to create a SKETCH!! How fun, right? And I hope that you ALL will play along.

I’ll show you a sneak peek of my tag, but I REALLY want you all to head over to the CLASSroom for all of the fun. There’s prizes to be had!! YESSS!!!

HOWEVER? If you use my sketch? Please let me know in the comments with a link. I’d love to see what you created so I can head on over to YOUR blog and comment. ♥ I’ve been known to give stuff away, too., so I’d love to see you create with my sketch! ;)

Have a great time with the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2017!!

Essentials by Ellen November Release

Hi there everyone and welcome!! We’re doing a little hop to celebrate the fabulous new Essentials By Ellen November Release. I hope that you’ve arrived here from the amazingly talented Sharon Harnist’s blog . If you need to start at the beginning, just go back and start at the CLASSroom.

I’m so lucky in that I was able to play with a stamp set that is right up my alley! This beautiful stamp set is called Abstract Paint Strokes which was designed by the uber talented Julie Ebersole. This is that kind of stamp set that you can use in a bajillion different ways. You’ll see all the different ways by all the talented designers throughout the hop. Use rainbow inks, pastel inks, watercolors, Christmas colors…you’ll get the idea! And the more you use these stamps, the more excited you’ll get!

I combined the Abstract Paint Strokes set with the Rustic Botanicals Stamp Set by Julie Ebersole to create my card:

And, in a nutshell, I simply used Distress Oxide Inks (which you can substitute with your favorite dye ink – I just happen to like the chalky effect of these inks) for the colored parts. Once dry, I stamped the three floral images in Onyx Black Versafine and then heat set with clear embossing powder. I repeat this with a gold embossing powder for the “dot” images. (It’s showing copper in my photo – my apologies.) The only suggestion I would have is to allow for white space. If you get overly heavy handed in “Lisa’s opinion” it just might look a little crazy. Which, hey, could look really amazing. I’m never one to knock crazy! ;) You do you. The only person that has to be happy at the end of the day is you. Right? Right!

Let’s see, where was I? Okay, I stamped the sentiment with Versamark onto a  piece of black cardstock and then heatset with white embossing powder. And popped it up with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Foam Squares. And I added just a dab of Nuvo Crystal Drops in Bright Gold to the center of the flower. That’s it.  Fairly simple, but a lovely card.

I know that you’ll LOVE your next stop on the hop which is with my wonderful friend and incredibly talented Ellen Hutson teammate, Kittie Caracciolo ⇐⇐⇐ CLICK!!! If you should get lost or just want to go back to top the top of the hop? Then please go to the CLASSroom.
