12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2017

Happy Friday! I hope that you’ve been checking in on the CLASSroom blog as there have been already a week’s worth of Ellen Hutson designers and guests for the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2017.

I’m so super excited to once again be paired up with the amazing Jill Foster of Penny Black. I’m always a little stunned when I’m paired with her as she’s SUCH a phenomenal designer. It’s like being told that you’re being paired with the Michelangelo of card design as your guest. A teeensy bit overwhelming. I can only do my own thing, though, y’know? Comparison will only kill ya.

SO!! For my challenge (since I’m the lead designer on this gig) I decided to create a SKETCH!! How fun, right? And I hope that you ALL will play along.

I’ll show you a sneak peek of my tag, but I REALLY want you all to head over to the CLASSroom for all of the fun. There’s prizes to be had!! YESSS!!!

HOWEVER? If you use my sketch? Please let me know in the comments with a link. I’d love to see what you created so I can head on over to YOUR blog and comment. ♥ I’ve been known to give stuff away, too., so I’d love to see you create with my sketch! ;)

Have a great time with the 12 Tags of Christmas with a Feminine Twist 2017!!

Essentials by Ellen November Release

Hi there everyone and welcome!! We’re doing a little hop to celebrate the fabulous new Essentials By Ellen November Release. I hope that you’ve arrived here from the amazingly talented Sharon Harnist’s blog . If you need to start at the beginning, just go back and start at the CLASSroom.

I’m so lucky in that I was able to play with a stamp set that is right up my alley! This beautiful stamp set is called Abstract Paint Strokes which was designed by the uber talented Julie Ebersole. This is that kind of stamp set that you can use in a bajillion different ways. You’ll see all the different ways by all the talented designers throughout the hop. Use rainbow inks, pastel inks, watercolors, Christmas colors…you’ll get the idea! And the more you use these stamps, the more excited you’ll get!

I combined the Abstract Paint Strokes set with the Rustic Botanicals Stamp Set by Julie Ebersole to create my card:

And, in a nutshell, I simply used Distress Oxide Inks (which you can substitute with your favorite dye ink – I just happen to like the chalky effect of these inks) for the colored parts. Once dry, I stamped the three floral images in Onyx Black Versafine and then heat set with clear embossing powder. I repeat this with a gold embossing powder for the “dot” images. (It’s showing copper in my photo – my apologies.) The only suggestion I would have is to allow for white space. If you get overly heavy handed in “Lisa’s opinion” it just might look a little crazy. Which, hey, could look really amazing. I’m never one to knock crazy! ;) You do you. The only person that has to be happy at the end of the day is you. Right? Right!

Let’s see, where was I? Okay, I stamped the sentiment with Versamark onto a  piece of black cardstock and then heatset with white embossing powder. And popped it up with Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® Foam Squares. And I added just a dab of Nuvo Crystal Drops in Bright Gold to the center of the flower. That’s it.  Fairly simple, but a lovely card.

I know that you’ll LOVE your next stop on the hop which is with my wonderful friend and incredibly talented Ellen Hutson teammate, Kittie Caracciolo ⇐⇐⇐ CLICK!!! If you should get lost or just want to go back to top the top of the hop? Then please go to the CLASSroom.

United We Flourish Hop With Altenew

Hi there!! And welcome to my stop on the hop. You should have have arrived from the fabulous blog of Svitlana Shayevich. She’s SO incredible, isn’t she? WOW!!

I have to tell you how incredibly excited I am about this hop. So many things I love: Ellen Hutson, the United We Flourish Program, Altenew, and POPPIES!! I have a serious love affair for poppies. I have them all over my house.  It’s true. They bring me such joy and hold a special place in my heart. ♥ I’m thrilled to be able to participate in this hop and I know you all will love designing with this multi-layered stamp set just like *I* did.

For my card I wanted to show off the versatility of both the stamp and die.  So I chose to use Distress Oxide Inks to watercolor the Poppy (first on the panel and then for the die-cut piece). And then I used standard Distress Inks to create the background.  Allow me to show you my card:

I first stamped out the Poppy image onto watercolor paper using 3 colors of Distress Oxide Inks. The reason I stamped this first image was to get the ink laid down and to create the watercolor effect I was going for. Using a paintbrush and water I was able to blur the ink and make the edges look more watercolor-y.

I then die-cut a mask of the flower out of Judikins Eclipse Tape .  By doing this I can now create the background without distorting the flower too much.

Placing the sticky mask on top of the flower I created my background using Distress Inks. This could absolutely be done with the Altenew Dye Inks, as well (I just don’t have any. *sad face*) . The colors I used are shown in the photo. (The Evergreen Bough was used as a transition color between the green and blue.)

Using water, a paintbrush, and the black ink from the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor set I next flicked black ink on top of the panel. This is a dramatic effect I just LOVE!

Stamping and die-cutting the United We Flourish Stamp & Die Combo, Poppy Fields by Altenew flower a SECOND time I added a few details. Black ink was added around the edges for contrast, hints of shimmer to the petal lines, and Glossy Accents to the center. This piece was added using dimensional foam squares.

A piece of black cardstock was prepped with an Inkadinkado Embossing Magic Powder Bag. The sentiment was stamped using Versamark Ink and then heat embossed with white embossing powder.

My Poppy panel was adhered to a piece of the Essentials by Ellen Paper Pack, Modern Graphics by Julie Ebersole and that piece was adhered to my base card. After that? I simply adhered my sentiment with a few foam squares and a few sequins were added.

Here is a close-up:

NOW!! What would a blog hop of ANY kind be without prizes?!!? :D

September Release Hop for Essentials by Ellen

Woohoo!! There’s nothin’ I like better than a new release! How ’bout you? And lucky for YOU Ellen Hutson now has ’em every month! Yeah, baby, yeahhh!! (Said in my best Austin Powers voice. *ahem* If you don’t know, that’s perfectly okay.)

I digress. This month is so amazing. And we have an awesome blog hop this week to get you going. You should have arrived at my blog from the P*H*E*N*O*M*E*N*A*L Tracey McNeely’s blog. In fact, I wouldn’t blame you for going back and hanging out there awhile. She’s pretty stinkin’ talented (as you all know).  And, you can always go back to The CLASSroom to start over or check out any other blogs you may have missed in the hop.

So I made a “Coal” (heh) tag using the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, Concertina Tag by Julie Ebersole for both of my projects but one is definitely more Bah Humbuggery (yes, it’s a word!!) and the other is a SET of tags. I hope you like them both.

And here is the tag all closed and tied up. So cute!

And now for my trio of tags. I love the simplicity of these. But the bold POPS! of color are what make these so fun.

That Fall one would be so fun to give at Thanksgiving with a bottle of wine or whatever you’re bringing to the feast, don’t you agree? No one says you HAVE to use holly leaves for Christmas. :)

And don’t forget to check out all the awesome projects from ALL the hoppers, if you haven’t. Thank you SO much for stopping by today!!

Essentials by Ellen and HoneyBee Hop

Hi! Welcome to my stop on this super special blog hop today. You should have arrived here from the uber-talented Julia Stainton’s blog.

This blog hop is special in that this is the third stamp set with the United We Flourish theme. This set being the collaboration between HoneyBee Stamps and Ellen Hutson LLC

In Ellen’s words, I’d like to share a little bit more about the United We Flourish Program and then I’ll share my card.

Last November we began celebrating our 10th anniversary with the theme United We Flourish. And what does United We Flourish mean? It means that our company would not be here without the amazing companies we work with, the designers who create stunning projects showcasing the wonderful products being created AND you, our fabulous customers! YOU are such a vital part of our creative community – you inspire & encourage us! Your response to United We Flourish was overwhelming and heart-warming. We heard repeatedly from you that you appreciate how our little company works together with the other manufacturers we carry to bring you their products and education showing how to use those products. To thank you for your constant support and encouragement, we have partnered with some of our friends to offer exclusive limited edition stamp & die sets!!! These sets will be available for a limited time (most likely 3-6 months) after each release, depending on how quickly you snap them up. The theme of these stamps sets are uplifting and fun.

We are thrilled to present the third one to you…Sending Sunshine by Honey Bee Stamps exclusively for Ellen Hutson LLC.

And here is my card!

And here’s how I made it! I simply smooshed my Distress Oxide Inks onto my craft mat and spritz with water.

Place your paper into the ink and be fearless!! Don’t be afraid to press it into different areas. If it pools on the edges, tap it onto a paper towel. You can dry if you’re happy either by heat tool or by air. Use more color…or finish.

I like a slightly more distressed look so I usually add water at this point. Just spritz water into your hand and allow droplets to fall onto the panel or use a wet paintbrush and flick water. Just be sure to use a clean paper towel to “bleach” the color out for the best effect.

I die cut a few shapes out of the paper that I wished to use.  The Sun Ray is from Essentials By Ellen Designer Dies, Silver Linings by Julie Ebersole  and the sun is from the Essentials by Ellen Designer Dies, All Inside by Julie Ebersole.

For that amaaaaazing sparkle I used one of my favorite products: Nuvo Glimmer Paste in Moonstone. I used a palette knife and scraped it on top of my paper. The paste picks up the color of what’s underneath. And simply SHINES!! It’s so pretty.

I die-cut the words “Sending” and “Sunshine” out of white and black cardstock and adhered the pieces together using Ranger Multi Medium in Matte. Then I stamped the words “A Little” out of Versafine Onyx Black onto Vellum and heat embossed with Clear embossing powder.

All of the various pieces were adhered to another colored piece of cardstock. Which was then layered on two MORE pieces of cardstock! Embellishments were added and this card was done. Here’s a close up for ya…

Don’t forget that there are **PRIZES** involved in this hop.  Oh yes!! Two randomly selected commenters  will win a $30 gift certificate to the Ellen Hutson shop. To enter just leave a comment on either the Ellen Hutson Classroom blog or the HoneyBee Blog  by 11:59pm PST on Friday, September 8.

Your NEXT stop on this hop is the ever so amazing LISA CISNEROS!!!! Make sure you give her lots of love and tons of comments. ♥♥♥
