Always Remember

Memorial Day is a day to remember the fallen. To show respect, and to honor the brave men and women who DIED while in service to this great nation of ours. We need to always remember these brave souls. And that is what Memorial Day is all about. It’s one day of the year that is set aside to do exactly that. To pay our respects.

I have a card today on the Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L® blog today to share my respects for those brave men and women. To say that we will always remember.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields. — (Source: Wikipedia)

I created my own Flanders Field of poppies using this gorgeous stamp set from Technique Tuesday called Budding Poppies.

I stamped it once, masked off one of the poppies and stamped it again. This creates a look of dimension and there being more when there isn’t any. The coloring was all done with Distress Markers, which I used as watercolors.

The sentiment (which I LOOOOOVE) comes from another Technique Tuesday stamp set called Poppy Sentiments and is one of my all time faves. I just love this stamp set with my whole heart. My dear friend Teri Anderson designed it and the sentiments in this set are the BEST…along with the poppies, of course.

As for me, I know that I will always remember those that came before me and laid their lives on the line so that I could live in a free country. I am so proud to live in a country like ours. We have so many wonderful opportunities and we have to give thanks where they are due.

Wherever you are, I hope that you will bow your heads in a moment of silence and remember…

Operation Write Home Blog Hop!

Welcome to my blog and my stop for the the Operation Write Home Memorial Day Weekend Blog Hop!!!!

You should have arrived here from Louise’s blog, Trinity Paper Arts, but if not, or if you’re lost, OR if you’d rather start at the beginning of the hop just click up there. I think we’ve got ya ALL covered. :)

Operation Write Home is a wonderful organization that sends blank handmade cards for our servicemen AND women who are deployed far from home to write and send back home on…what a gift! Please check out their website for a way that you can give by donating your own gift of talent or a monetary donation (if feasible).

Here’s my contribution to this year’s hop:

On Memorial Day (or the weekend prior, as the case may be) it’s important to know that this day is not just about BBQ’s and the day off, but the sacrifices that our military make on our behalf each and every day. We live in a home of the free, because of the brave.
